The Wheelchair Seating Clinic at Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute offers a comprehensive evaluation to determine the appropriate wheelchair and wheelchair seating for anyone who has this medical need.
A comprehensive evaluation is performed by a physical therapist or occupational therapist who is experienced in determining appropriate mobility and seating components for individuals.
The patient's caregivers and preferred medical equipment supplier are welcome to participate in the evaluation session.

muscle strength and tone
sensation
posture and sitting balance
skin integrity.
When indicated, use of the latest technology, the Xsensor Pressure Mapping System, may be used to provide analysis of wheelchair seating effectiveness related to skin protection.
The therapist will make recommendations for the patient's mobility and seating needs and will work with qualified medical equipment suppliers to facilitate home trials of this equipment.
Further clinical evaluation or instruction may be indicated beyond the initial evaluation.
Documentation will be completed for insurance coverage after a trial-use period is complete and final equipment needs are identified.
