Digital mammograms for breast cancer detection

A digital mammogram is like traditional film screen mammogram. Both use X-rays to generate images of the breast.

However, instead of using film to capture and record the image, a digital mammogram uses a special detector to capture and convert X-ray energy into a digital image, making the images immediately available to the radiologist for diagnosis.

The benefit to patients is there is no waiting for film to be developed, reducing the time patients spend at River Falls Area Hospital, as well as reducing the need for repeat exams due to under or over exposure.

Our medical imaging/radiology department is licensed and/or certified by the state of Wisconsin and by the American College of Radiology.
