Ambulances from throughout the area transport critically injured people directly to Mercy for specialized trauma care. The national designation is awarded by the American College of Surgeons. Emergency servicesMercy Hospital is equipped to provide emergency medical and trauma services for patients in the Northwest Metro 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and trauma surgeons, Mercy's Emergency Department includes trauma stabilization rooms, specialized rooms for pediatrics, cardiac, orthopedics and gynecology. Families of trauma and critical care patients can remain close by in privacy areas. Mercy works closely with Allina Medical Transporation, EMS (emergency medical services) and area first responders. A helicopter landing pad allows Mercy to receive emergency patients by air or transport patients on for specialty care, such as to a burn center. ER ExpressAt Mercy Hospital, ER Express is available for minor illnesses and injuries every day from noon to midnight. A triage nurse is located near the ER entrance to evaluate patients and determine the level of care required (ER Express or traditional emergency care).
