Bariatric surgery for weight loss

Also called weight loss surgery, bariatric surgery limits the amount of food you can eat by reducing the size of the stomach. Some procedures also change the digestion process.

Bariatric surgeons are doctors with special training to perform procedures like these:

• roux-en-Y gastric bypass
• gastric banding (Lap-BandŽ or Realize Band™ surgery)
• biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch
• sleeve gastrectomy
• vertical banded gastroplasty.
