Nurse practitioners are registered nurses (RNs) with advanced training.

They work with physicians to offer health care for men, women and children. You may choose a nurse practitioner (NP) for preventive care, routine exams, illness or injury.

A nurse practitioner (NP) also may

focus on helping people manage a disease like diabetes or cancer
specialize in geriatric medicine, obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) or pediatrics.
